We choose an Ecuadorian travel company as they really do know what’s happening in their own country. I can not recommend Gulliver travel www.gulliver.com.ec more, they were so professional and collaborative in the planning phase and supportive throughout of journey. Working with Carmen my Gulliver travel agent, we build our Ideal trip, starting with selection from the mirid of options for see the amazing Galapagos Islands, we chose an eight-day cruise on a western islands route. Then she advised visiting the Equatorial Amazon, which I didn’t even know existed. The range of wildlife in the jungle was specular, birds, monkeys, anaconda, dolphin, and caiman to name a few. Touring in outboard canoes, swimming in the lagoon, village tours and day & night jungle hikes.
Then we filled in the remaining days between these two destinations with a selection of day tours with a private guide and driver, the benefit of this is it is time effective, you can dictate the places you do and don’t want to visit, and the guide is very flexible with great local knowledge. We went to the cloud forest in Mindo, our guide was also a keen bird watcher, the hummingbirds are numerous and fascinating. We also hiked to waterfalls and went on a forest zipline course, and chocolate factory tour. We spent a day at the Otavalo indigenous market, beautiful garments and jewellery. We spent a day in the valley of the volcanos Cotopaxi, including horse-riding and high-altitude scenery and vegetation. And a full day in Quito, learning about the country’s history and visiting the centre of the world!
We travelled from Australia, and only spoke the most basic Spanish, this didn’t matter at all, as the Ecuadorian people are lovely and can generally communicate in good English. We found them hospitable, helpful and proud to show you their amazing country. There have been some travel warnings, and our agent did provide us with some commonsense guidance and advice on the best locations for accommodation. At no time on our Ecuadorian holiday, did we feel at all unsafe.
I mentioned how supportive Gulliver Travel was, let me explain further. They did not only organise accommodation, booked our tours, internal flights, organised airport pickup’s (even at 3am). They provided a support person for us while we toured Ecuador, she came to our motel on our first morning. We communicated with Paula via What’s app, as needs and she checked in with us every few days. I mentioned one night my husband had an upset stomach, and she contacted our accommodation and they knocked on the door with herbal tea, amazing. We were provided with a full day to day inventory on Travel key app, as well as activities and travel details for the day, contact numbers for drivers, guides and accommodation.
Ecuador is one of the smaller South America countries, but packed full of scenery and adventure, and generous people. Visit Ecuador and you can have your trip of a lifetime.
