Recently, a group of explorers climbed the Cayambe Volcano whilst suffering illness from Cyctic Fibrosis, a great achievement for these climbers.
The 9 Belgian climbers visited Ecuador for a climbing expedition. The climbers suffer from Cyctic Fibrosis and challenged themselves to conquer their health issues. With half a year of preparation under strict supervision, the climbers trained for this expedition. One of the climbers commented: ‘It is much better and healthier to live your life with both feet on the ground, with all challenges incurred, than to stay at home.’
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening illness that makes slime chewy and sticky within the lungs. Every climber gasps for air at this height, but these 9 climbers in particular. It wasn’t their goal to climb to the top of the Cayambe, but to reach one’s own goal during this expedition. Most of them, crosses the 5000 meters line. It was a though climb, says one of the climbers, but they are glad to have reached their individual goals and to have participated in this adventure.
According to the medical specialist and guide, people suffering from Cyctic Fibrosis should not be ‘tempered’. It is much healthier to live with both feet on the ground than to really suffer from the illness. Not everyone needs to climb mountains to conquer the illness, but one could already only go for a walk under medical guidance . Challenges will always be there and it is a future perspective to enjoy a better quality of life.
After searching for the best places on the planet to perform climbing activities the group of explorers decided to travel to Ecuador due to the several volcanoes the country has that are known worldwide for their stunning landscapes and amazing views. They decided to make the challenge with Gulliver Expeditions which is well known for adventure and mountain climbing activities in Ecuador. Their Aclimatization Packages are perfectly designed to have an adequate process of adaptation to altitude and a gain of physical resistance. During a period selected, explorers have the chance to visit the best highlights of the Ecuadorian Andes while getting ready for the highest summits such as Cayambe, Cotopaxi and the great Chimborazo.0
