As the Cotopaxi Bikes tour was the first trip I made so far during my internship at Gulliver Expeditions, I was quite excited about it: The bus picked us up at 6:45am from the Plaza Foch and we started officially our one day mountain experience. Already on our drive we got a hint of the deepth and beauty of the Cotopaxi volcano. After picking up the other passengers at the Hostería Papagayo Cotopaxi we arrived at the national park with a spectacular view of the Anden landscape named “Avenue of the volcanos”.
We started to treck upwards towards the glacier, higher and higher. As we reached the alpin hut at 4.810 m and the weather was quite nice we went even further up to the glacier. Eventhough we all have been in Quito for a few day, and some of us already have done some hiking in higher areas, it still felt like a challenge. In this high you can definitely feel the altitude and a slow ascent with many breaks to breath deeply and a lot of water is nessesary to get you up there safe. The more we enjoyed the amazing view over the valley and the surrounding volcanos next to the bluish glacier.
Finally we started our downhill mountainbiking towards the beautiful Lagoon Limpiopungo located on the feet of Cotopaxi.
After having so much fun doing this activities we return to Hosteria Papagayo to recover energies and had a great lunch. Traveles can take the option to spend the night in this amazing place if they feel like or return to Quito.
