Relaxing on the beach and visiting culture sights is no longer the main part of vacations. The “New Generation” like Lena Krieger, 28, from Germany prefer more and more action and adventure during their free time apart from the daily life. One of the best places to make unforgettable memories, to go on new adventures and to reach limits – ECUADOR. The small country on the equator has almost everything to offer that makes your holidays anything but boring.
To show parts of what is possible in Ecuador we had a nice talk with Lena Krieger. She spent 4 weeks in Ecuador and tried to do as much as possible. The athletic girl, who calls herself “sport junky” always tries to plan her vacation as sporty as possible. There is no day in Germany when she is not running or doing another kind of sport (like Taekwondo). Every year she takes a month and travels to a versatile country. This year she chose Ecuador.
Her tour started in Quito, she visited the beautiful old town and the middle of the world. From there she went to the Hosteria PapaGayo and did the 8 days acclimatization program and climbed at the end the Cotopaxi volcano successfully. Ecuador is a great possibility to experience the mountains of the Andes from lower ones (about 4.200m) until the biggest ones (6.300m). This “once in a lifetime” experience would be enough for most of the people, but Lena wasn`t tired at all.
After her climbing experience she went to the adventure city Banos and did Canyoning and the famous bicycle tour along the waterfalls. (http://banos-ecuador.com/) To keep the adrenalin she got from the Cayoning, she went to Tena. In the jungle of Ecuador she did rafting, tubing and kayaking. Furthermore, Lena spent a few days in a Amazon Lodge where she learned how to cook traditional food and got to know the people who are living in the jungle.
Her last trip on the mainland was to the indigenous market of Otavalo, to do at least one more cultural tour during her trip in Ecuador. After 3 weeks of almost full adventure, fun and activities, she decided to go to the amazing Galapagos Islands where she finally relaxed a few days.
On the end of our conversation Lena told me that Ecuador was one of the most fascinating countries she has ever been to and that she was impressed by the friendly and warmhearted population as well as by the different sites of the country she got to know. “Thank you, Gulliver Expeditions. For unforgettable experiences.”
