This 8-day program is designed to help you acclimatize in high altitudes by doing endurance activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and mountain climbing in the “Avenue of the Volcanoes”.
You will be provided with the best equipment, guides, and food to help you reach the perfect condition for competing in the heights of the Ecuadorean Andes, and also prevent you from suffering from the negative effects of high altitude such as altitude illness.
Our driver will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to the Hostería PapaGayo Cotopaxi.
On this day you will receive mechanic and bicycle maintenance training.
A sumptuous breakfast will be served bright and early in preparation for your first climb. After that, we will depart by car to the base of Pasochoa. We start climbing to reach the first summit. After a short break, we keep going until we reach the last summit. A packed lunch will be served there to keep our energy up. Having returned to PapaGayo you will be rewarded with a delicious power dinner (carbs – proteins – vitamins – minerals – fats).
A tasty breakfast of your choice will be served bright and early in preparation for your day! Then we will depart by bike up to the town of Panzaleo where we will begin our ascension to Rumiñahui South to improve our breathing. On the way, we will stop for an energy-boosting lunch. With our energy levels up we will reach the highpass and go on towards Cotopaxi to reach the meeting point at the Lagoon. From there we will return to PapaGayo, where you will be rewarded with a delicious power dinner (carbs – proteins – vitamins – minerals – fats).
An energy-boosting breakfast will be served bright and early in preparation for your extreme day! We will depart hiking from Papagayo to the base of Corazon Volcano. From there we will begin our ascent hiking fast to make our muscles strive! On the way to the summit, we will stop for a tasty lunch that helps us maintain our energy levels high. Having reached the summit we will return to PapaGayo where you will be rewarded with a delicious power dinner (carbs – proteins – vitamins – minerals – fats).
After a delicious breakfast, we leave the Hostería for the Cotopaxi National Park. Having arrived there we begin biking uphill on the road to the parking lot (4,500m/14,763 ft). There we will change for warm clothes and begin the hike up to the Jose Rivas refuge (4,810m/15,780ft). After a short break, we will then hike to the glaciers (5,000m/16,404 ft), walk on the snow and return to the parking lot for power lunch. Having restored our energy for the rest of the day we will grab the bikes, check the equipment and begin the ascent after a short briefing. Upon returning to PapaGayo you will be rewarded with a delicious power dinner (carbs – proteins – vitamins – minerals – fats).
This day is for hydrating and resting. In the morning you will receive some more tips for your bike maintenance while in the afternoon you will receive altitude racing tips and you can participate in a yoga class.
A sumptuous breakfast of your choice will be served bright and early in preparation for the RACE! After filling up your energy levels you will be transferred from Papagayo to the race starting point at Cotopaxi National Park.
If desired you can stay at the Hostería PapaGayo Cotopaxi after the race (not included).
