Ecuador was choose like the best city/country in Latin America for learning Spanish!
Like all of the countries in the world, the accents changes a lot in a same country, there are different ways to pronounce in the North, South, Jungle, Cost, Andes…
But here, we say that the inhabitants of Quito are people with best pronunciation and less accent.
That why, if you are just starting to learn Spanish, we recommend you to stay some days or weeks in Quito and take some lessons. You will find several good schools’ options and also different classes based on your level. Those schools will offer you the possibility to study just on the mornings or on the afternoons, that will let you time to discover the capital and the surroundings.
Once you get the “basics” to survive, you can practice it in the whole country and just do not hesitate to try it because Ecuadorians are so kind when you try to speak Spanish.
Really, this is our best advice for you to improve and practice your Spanish: do not be shy, it does not matter if you do not have still all of the vocabulary. Just try it with simple words and make some symbolic gestures and they will smile and do their best to understand you. They appreciate a lot when a foreigner make an effort to speak in Spanish.
During your travel in Ecuador, you will hear the differences of accents between the regions but the Ecuadorians attitude will be the same: very respectful and grateful to see you trying to speak Spanish.
Also, keep in mind that in Ecuador like in other Latin America countries you have also some local languages like Quechua/Quichua or other indigenous dialects. So sometimes, you will have some difficulties to understand local indigenous people because they speak Spanish but like they use to speak their own language (like singing or like using some sounds that Spanish language does not use!).
But the most important thing to do is enjoy your Spanish lessons in Quito for travelling then and learn about the Ecuadorians’ culture, habits, foods, religions, legends, histories… They love to speak and to tell about their histories and more with foreigners!
