Hiking and biking, heading with a taxi to the Quitumbe Bus Terminal in southern Quito, even before seven o´clock on Saturday mornings you will find yourself stuck in traffic, but with a little luck you can enter a bus a few minutes right after arriving at the terminal. A 3,5 bus ride takes you to the stunning little town Baños, a city in the eastern part of the Tungurahua province, in central Ecuador. It is known as the “Gateway to The Amazon” as it is located on the Pastaza River in the High Amazon Basin.
After the ride you can enjoy a pretty delicious breakfast at the Café Arte & Te, where they offer a wide rangeof coffee and great breakfast combos.
Besides rafting, canopy and other adventures activities, the Casa del Arbol is one of the mayor attractions of Baños, which you shouldn’t miss out. From the top you have a breathtaking view of the still active volcano Tungurahua, especially at sunset when the sun colours the heaven in a deep orange. If you are lucky youcan experience an eruption with a huge column of smoke coming out.
Furthermore, you can rent some bikes and head off to the waterfalls. After about two hours you arrive at theRio Verde. It has nice and clear water, where you can refresh yourself or relax in the sun. A hundred meters away there is th the famous waterfall pailon de diablo. Really worth to see that, too.
