This Ecuador Tour route starts on the feet of the Corazon volcano and goes to the feet of the impressive Ilinizas twin peaks volcano. Then it crosses part of the Cotopaxi volcano, the Rumiñahui volcano and in these routes can be seen a wide range of native plants, various species of birds and mammals that live in the area, and don’t forget, the wide valley of Machachi. Tourists will have the opportunity to see spectacular scenery at impressive viewpoints from a good height to the valley. Finally, this trek ended with the challenging Cotopaxi summit ascent.
In the morning, we start our first walk from Hosteria PapaGayo (3,200m/10,498 ft) to reach the “Virgen” in the Ilinizas (3,900m/12,795 ft). This trek will take us to the typical village of El Chaupi and then to the Andean paramo and primary forest of the Ilinizas reserve. At the end of the day, we will settle in our camp.

In the morning, we start our second trek, going at a lower altitude this time. After breakfast, we will walk in direction of the Boliche area which is located next to the Cotopaxi national park. This trek will be a mix between no man’s land and crossing through little Indian villages where you will enjoy yourself with the local people. We will also cross the Panamerican Highway on this day.
Trek distance: 15 km (9,3 miles) – Elevation difference: – 400 meters (1,312 ft)

After rising, we will appreciate the beautiful sunrise, prepare breakfast and collect the camping equipment. Then we will continue along the path into Cotopaxi National Park: through the water channel, on the slopes of Rumiñahui, and continue our way to Laguna Limpiopungo (3,800m/12,467 ft). At the Lake of Limpiopungo, we will then continue toward the Rinconada camping site. After a rest, at night you can take a walk around the lake where you can observe birds such as gulls, ducks and other species.

After breakfast, we collect the camping equipment. From here, we will continue our last (but not the least!) trek. On this last day, the most challenging will take us to the gigantic Cotopaxi volcano. Starting from the Rinconada camping site, we will ascent until the refuge where our day ends. We will then spend the night in the refuge and have a delicious dinner.
Trek distance: 10 km (6,2 miles) – Elevation difference: + 900 meters (2,952 ft)
Meals included:
This day will be a day of rest at the refuge. After a nice breakfast, you can enjoy the day to enjoy incredible views of the volcanoes around (Antisana, Cayambe, Rumiñahui, and Ilinizas). During this day, your guides will be giving you the necessary speech regarding safety and technics for your climb.
After dinner at the refuge, you will take a short sleep and around midnight you start your ascent to the summit. The ascent takes between 6 to 8h depending on your conditions.

You made it! You are on the top for Sunrise. Depending on the weather, you will enjoy one of the most impressive views of your life with all the volcanoes of Ecuador around: Cayambe, Antisana, Tungurahua, and Chimborazo. After some minutes to take pictures of the surroundings and the smoking crater, we descent back to the refuge. Then transportation will take us back to Hosteria PapaGayo where you can rest and enjoy a nice celebration lunch (Not included).
