This tour takes you to the famous National Park Cajas 35 kilometers/21.75 miles north from Cuenca. It has a variety of both vegetation and fauna. It contains vestiges of Inca’s Royal Road. Two hundred of its archeological ruins have been recovered. You will have the chance to visit many lakes with beautiful flora and fauna.

We depart at 8 am taking the Cuenca – Molleturo highway. After aprox. 30 minutes of ride, we get to the Cajas National Park. The area of Cajas has 232 lakes. It is located at 21.75 miles / 35 kilometers away (north) from Cuenca. It has a variety of both vegetation and fauna. It contains vestiges of Inca’s Royal Road. Two hundred of its archeological ruins have been recovered. The park covers an area of about 29.000 hectares/ 71.658 acrid and it has an altitude of about 2700 to 4300 m. / 8858 to 14.108 feet.
Once in the park, we need to walk around 40 minutes to arrive to the Toreadora Lake, which is one of the biggest in the park. On the rout we will see many different kinds of flora like (Chuquirahua, Romerillo, Rubra, Chochoandino, and Lencetilla de Páramo).
After a resting time we start the 2nd walk (3hs aprox, moderate difficulty) from the highest point called Tres Cruces. There you can see both parts of the National Park CAJAS. This is the most appropriate place to take really original pictures. After, we go to the lake Chica Ilincocha, where we will start the trekking. Continuing with our route, we will find the first polilepis forest which is a wonderful place. It is unique in the world and has magic inside this special forest. Later on, we walk just to arrive to Unites Lakes where we will have our snack and a little rest/nap in order to keep on going around this beautiful place.
We continue walking and then we find the second and biggest polilepis forest that has an underground river with clean water used for drinking. Here you can feel the peuhace and love of the natural high lands which are considered like one of the best places to visit in Ecuador and South America.
Taking the smuggle rout; we can see the different kinds of lagoons that we have here in this area; like Neotríficas, Oligotríficas y Mesotróficas.
We arrive at Barros and Taquihurcu lakes, and then we get down to the mountain to finish our trekking. Later on, we go to the restaurant to eat trout, the typical fish in the area. Then we return to Cuenca and we will drop off at the hotel at 4 pm approx.
