The Parinacota Volcano is located on the Bolivia-Chile border in the Andes Cordillera. It is considered the twin of the Pomerape Volcano and together they make up the snowy Payachatas or “Twin Gods” of the inhabitants of the Andean highlands of both Bolivia and Chile.
Located in the Sajama National Park, the Parinacota is not an extremely technical climb during the dry season, however, you should not underestimate the altitude. You will be climbing past 6,000 meters (19,685 ft). The last eruption of the volcano happened over 1,000 years ago, nevertheless, it is still considered active.
The peak of Parinacota is almost perfectly symmetrical and is a favorite mountain for climbing in this area. The main climbing season is from late June to mid-September. Live this experience by booking your trip with Gulliver Expeditions!
You will leave the city of La Paz with private transportation for about 4 hours until reaching the town of Sajam at 4,300 meters (14,107 ft).
