Our 3 days horseback riding tour is the most impressive and memorable option to experience the famous Cotopaxi National Park. The tour begins with an instruction in a safe enclosure with the help of an experienced guide. This allows riders to gain confidence with the horses. Our horses are well – trained and ideal for rookies and expert riders.
This tour is highly recommended for nature lovers waiting to experience life in the open Andean mountains.
This tour covers 30 km (18 miles approximately) each day so it is therefore recommended to riders with experience.
After your arrival at the Hostería PapaGayo you receive riding instructions from our experienced guide so you can get comfortable with the horses. The first day is spent riding through local farms towards the magnificent Boliche Recreational Area where you will be able to sightseen the Corazon Mountain, the Illinizas and Rumiñahui Volcanoes. We spend the night in El Boliche cottages.
On the second day, we ride across the Rumiñahui Volcano and visit Limpiopungo Lagoon in the flat lands of Cotopaxi Volcano. We will be able to see flora, fauna and eco-systems found at high altitude. We will have the opportunity to see wild horses, llamas, eagles, condors and cattle, all of which roam freely within the park boundaries.
The second night is spent in Tambopaxi Hostel.
On the final day, we ride towards the north side of Cotopaxi Volcano to observe the Inca Ruins, other lakes, fauna and flora. A vehicle will meet us in the Cotopaxi National Park to bring us back to PapaGayo Hosteria. The guide will bring back the horses to Papagayo Hosteria.
We strongly recommend you rent chaps to protect your legs from either dirt or possible injuries. You can rent them for an extra price of $8 per day, please notify the staff of the Hosteria if you wish to rent them. We also supply helmets free of charge.
