Destinations of the month

Peru is entering its beautiful season, it is the right time to go to the Andes to visit the famous Machu Picchu, despite the beautiful days are coming, temperatures can be cool during the day. Be careful, the mountains are often covered in mist and there may be rain showers or snow showers at higher altitudes.

It is also the right time to visit the Amazon rainforest, where temperatures are hot and humid all year round. However, it is important to note that the rainy season continues in this region, so it is possible to encounter frequent rains and humid conditions which makes it possible not to get too hot.

Celebrations:

This month, Peruvians celebrates the 1st of may the workers.
On the 14th they will celebrate Mother’s Day.

May 20 is the Feast of Corpus Christi. It is a Catholic holiday that celebrates the Eucharist and is celebrated in many cities and towns across Peru with processions, dances and fireworks.

The 29th Gulliver Expeditions will have 18 years.

The Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley

History

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city located on a mountain ridge in the Andes, above the Sacred Valley. This city was built in the 15th century, during the Inca Empire, but was abandoned shortly after the Spanish conquest of Peru. The city remained hidden for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1911 by American archaeologist Hiram Bingham.
Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Peru and attracts millions of visitors every year. The site is one of the 7 wonders of the world in addition to being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

The Sacred Valley is located between Cusco and Machu Picchu. This valley is known for its natural beauty, traditional villages, Inca archaeological sites and local crafts. It was considered a sacred place for the Incas and was little known to foreigners before the discovery of Machu Picchu. The valley is home to several archaeological sites, including the ruins of Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero, as well as the salt pans of Maras.
