Destinations of the month

May is the end of the rainy season in Ecuador so it is better to go to the coast during this period. In the Andes the rain decreases, more and more beautiful sunny days arrive to go hiking.

Regarding the Galapagos the weather is ideal, it is with the month of April, the best time to go there and have the opportunity to see many penguins, giant turtles on the beaches as well as albatrosses.

Peru is entering its beautiful season, it is the right time to go to the Andes to visit the famous Machu Picchu but also in the Amazonian forest where the temperature is still mild.

Celebrations:

This month Ecuadorians, like the rest of the world, have Labor Day on May 1st which is a public holiday and on the 14th they will celebrate Mother’s Day.
Ecuador’s national day is May 24th the locals celebrate the independence they won from the Spanish in 1822.
The 29th Gulliver Expeditions will have 18 years.

Cotopaxi

History

Cotopaxi in Ecuador is an iconic volcano with a rich past. Rising to 5,897 meters  above sea level, it is the highest active volcano in the world. Besides its volcanic activity, the Cotopaxi also has a deep cultural significance for the indigenous populations of the region. Before the arrival of Spanish settlers, Cotopaxi was revered as a sacred mountain by pre-Columbian civilizations, which associated important cultural beliefs and rituals with it.

During the colonial period, the Cotopaxi attracted the attention of European explorers, including Wilhelm Reiss and Angel Escobar who made the first ascent of the volcano in 1872, thus marking the beginning of mountaineering in this region.

Today, the Cotopaxi is a popular tourist site, attracting adventurers and nature enthusiasts from all over the world.
